Just because...

Do you sometimes give gifts to people just because. Just because they are special to you. Just because you want to make someone happy. Just because it's nice to get a little surprise, it brightens anyones day. Just because.

This week I decided to do few bookmarks (that I saw on pinterest) to people just because. I'll tell you the stories for two of them.

This first bookmark is for Lillian, the lady who does rhyme time at the library. Emma adores her. Last week Emma ran to her and spent most of the rhyme time on her lap instead of being with me. Lillian has made us feel so welcome and it means the world to us that she has taken the time to get to know us.

Then she told us that she will be moving and this week is going to be her last rhyme time with us. I nearly cried (I'm a bit emotional like that over silly things). So I wanted to make something little for her to say thank you and that we are going to miss her. And what gift would be more suited than a bookmark.

Lillian, if you ever read this, we love you! You are amazing!

This one is for my dear friends daughter, Holly. She is 11 and going through some rough time at the moment. It's not always easy to be the first of four kids, people expect you to help and count on you with many things.

I saw this text somewhere and I thought of Holly immediately. But different to the other bookmark, I'm not planning on her finding out who it is from. I just want her to get this and know that someone is thinking of her. Plus it might be nice to know that you have a secret friend. All I can do is hope that it will cheer her up, just because.

Have you ever given something just because?

An owl and Cleo the cat

For a long time I didn't understand what is the thing about having tags on every side of the toy. I obviously needed my own child to understand how awesome it is. When ever a bought toy would have a tag, it was the tag that was more interesting than the toy. So I wanted to try how it would work if I made a rag with tags on each side.

It worked like magic! Emma was pulling them, tasting them, turning the rag around and looking very carefully on all of those tags. (And by know you're probably wondering where's the rag since the owl blanket doesn't really look like a rag with tags.) I made the owl and I didn't want to make it into a rag so I've saved that for some other project. I just wanted to show you the owl first because I really like it.

But here's the story of the rag: I found so wonderful book for Emma (actually we got it for free from the library because it's a bit broken, our library is the best) and I absolutely love the pictures in it. They are so colourful and bright, plus I like cats. So I wanted to make that cute cat on the rag.

I'd want to post a picture of every page of that book, but I think you'd agree with me from the two pictures above that it's pretty cool. I used old cotton blanket for the rag and I really like the end result.

Pienelle tytölle - For a little girl

My best friend's little girl got a name last Sunday (and what a beautiful name it is). Of course I had to make something for her and as the winter seems to be getting colder and colder I had to make something that will keep her warm. Pretty much the only thing that was successful was the cross stitch and embroidery. I was in a hurry to make these so i stuffed up because I couldn't make decisions. So if you look at the next pictre very closely (no need to necessary) you'll be able to spot the faults. Nevertheless they still work and fit and will keep her warm which is the most important thing.

Onko jo joululahjat tehtynä? Itselläni taitaa tulla kiire, kun en ole ehtinyt aloittamaankaan. Kymmenen päivää enää.

Have you done all your presents already? I know I'll be in a hurry, because I haven't had time to start yet. Ten days till Christmas.
