Coming soon - a baby!

What do you do when you don't feel inspired? I try to think of someone special who I could do something for. Well not always, but it did work this time. I have a massive amount of things that I'm suppose to knit and sew and I just haven't been feeling like doing anything. But then I thought to do something very tiny and little for this little kicking machine inside of me. And voilá, I got my inspiration back!

Yeah you got it right! We're getting another baby! Yay! And if you're thinking it's a boy based on the colour of the onesie, well you're wrong. Or you might not be.. We don't know what we're having, the brown material was just the only thing I had.

Fox is done by a stencil that I whiped up. Actually I made two different sizes, smaller one for the sleeve and a bigger one at the front. I'm also thinking of making one even bigger for a different project.. See I'm all inspired and have too many ideas in my head again. Gotta love it. I'm not a very artistic person as you can see, but I like the fox. Simple and cute. I'm on a roll now.

Diaper "awesome" covers

Oh this has been the most fun project I have done lately. There is this gorgeous lady in the next town from us who takes amazing baby and toddler and kid photos. Just all her photos are amazing. Well she ordered some diaper covers from me. Apparently it's so much cuter to see these things around the baby's bum than a nappy.

And what made it so much fun, you ask? Well they are so tiny (though they look massive in the photos) and soft and adorable. Plus I got to try them on for my super cute niece to see that the size was right and she just looked so precious. Yeah I should have taken the camera with me then so that I would actually have a baby wearing them here. Oh well.

The bow family's weekend

Well hello there everyone. How was your weekend? Ours didn't end until this morning since we had daddy home for an extra day and morning. And all we did all weekend long was family family family togetherness.

We...

... partied with red bows

... dove under the water

... had a picnic by a massive rock

... climbed the massive rock (half way)

... slept in on two mornings (yeah I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the time)

... cuddled in bed even though it was already 9am

... ate sushi

... ate sushi the next day too

... + all sorts of silly things like making milk moustaches

Major culture difference issue

Oh how culture differences can get on my nerves sometimes. I got so annoyed that I even drew a graph to demonstrate my point. Yeah I drew, me who doesn't possess any skills in that area. Proves a point I think. (Mind the awful photos, my camera is still broken, just focus on the message)

So the problem is that here people just rock up at your door and come in to hang out. Now I know I'm a stay at home mum, but should that mean that I've got nothing to do. Some people maybe, but news flash: I do things even though I'm home.

And you might think that a perfect time to rock up is when the kiddo is asleep, second news flash: That's my time, time that I'm doing my own things, time when I work (aka sew, knit etc.), time when I can do things that I can't do when my child is awake. So do I want visitors on that time? No.

In Finland I would never ever have this problem. There my friends and family would call me first, maybe even a week before, to see when would be a good time to visit. And I do the same. That way everyone can adjust their life when they know in advance.

I'm not putting Australia down here, it's just the way they do things around here. I'm used to different way and I like my way. So I'm thinking of putting a sign on out door that says: "Don't come if you haven't called first." :)

Note, this same thing (just the other way around) annoyed my husband in Finland. "Why won't people just rock up, why do they have to call before, that's just stupid", he'd say. So it's just what we are used to I suppose.

Journal covers

One lovely lady went to the shop (Victoria's place) and ordered some journal covers. She said: "a pink one, a purple one and a yellow one thank you." So Victoria came to me and asked me to make them. Ta da here they are:

I made a couple of different options and I fell in love with the first purple one. I think I might have to make myself one of that kind.

As I was making these I was thinking to myself, my oh my how easy are these. Why would you order these when you could so easily make them yourself. Now I don't mind making these and getting money in return but I did think that maybe all you sewers would like super easy and simple tutorial on how to make these. To make for gifts or for yourself. You could make it for your journal or your calendar or to fancy up your notebook.

What say ye?

Healthy egg hunt

Happy Easter Monday everyone. Hope you all had a lovely little holiday. We spent it mainly with family. This year my sister-in-law and I thought that we should have an easter egg hunt for our girls. (We have quite similar age gals, 4 months apart.)

I wasn't sure how it would turn out and I didn't want my child eating loads of chocolate so I wanted to come up with a healthier version of a normal easter egg hunt. And wow it worked! Both of the girls, even though under two, loved loved loved searching for the eggs and then eating them. I was amazed how so young children were able to be so in it and get the whole idea. So I thought I'd share the idea with you.

Last year I bought these plastic easter eggs after easter, I think they were 50 % sale and I was sure I would do something with them at some stage. Lucky that I bought them because now we got to use them.

I then bought all sorts of dried fruit, banana, sultanas, pinaple, apricots and cranberries. You could also use cereal or nuts if your child is not allergic to nuts.

Put only few in each egg. I put only one of pinaple and apricot per egg because they are quite big. Then just hide them and let the fun begin!

This worked really well with Emma and her cousin. They'd find an egg, open it and eat few fruits, and then keep looking for more. Oh the joy of searching and finding!

Lucky bunny

Remember how last year I made this bunny for Emma. Well I thought it was time to make another one, it is Easter after all. So I found a cute bunny with instructions and thought I'd give it a go. (instructions here)

I'm not used to sewing toys so I was struggling with it a bit, but that's ok, because this was the reaction when I gave Emma her bunny:

That's right, hugs and kisses! What a lucky bunny and what a happy girl. Note: she loves bunnies. So here's to wishing you all a very happy easter!

Hairclips

We were invited to a birthday party on the weekend and this is what the little girl got as a present from us. And then my camera started to play up so I couldn't get good photos. But the main thing is that the birthday girl loved them and now I've been ordered some more after her mum posted some photos on facebook. Awesome!

I made my husband go to a textile shop to get me more material, because we live in a too small town to get anything like that. Apparently he felt like a fish out of water and got strange looks. What a good man I have, thanks sweetie!
