2 months today

Some say that time has gone fast
And wonder how to make the moments last.
With you, my darling, however
I feel like I've known you forever.

Movember and my little moustache man

Few more days left of Movember and I think it's time to show our moustaches that we've been growing all month long. Here's my little man's moustache. It truly has been in the making for the whole month. In the beginning of the month I cut the pieces for the onesie, then the second week I was able to make the stencil and print the moustache. Third week I sew the neckline and the sleeves and yesterday I was able to finish it off. For some reason making things seems to take a long time at the moment. But he looks pretty handsome with his moustache if I may say so.

Oh how he grows, he's even smiling now!

Mini holiday

Mini vacation in the big Perth city for me and the kids while daddy was doing a course at the academy. We don't go to the city that often, so it was nice to wonder around there. Not so easy to take pictures with two kids though, couldn't even change the setting to get some colourful pictures. Oh well we truly enjoyed ourselves even though I am in the need of another holiday just so I could rest from this holiday.

Life is happy when on your holiday you can eat sushi as often as you want, have a clean room every day without having to clean it, hearing Christmas music in the shops and buying new geeky glasses. I am focusing here on the good memories instead of all the screaming in the car, wetting pants in the shops, having such a sore back after carrying the little on all day long, running away and chasing episodes. Oh the joyous life of trying to do things on your own with two kids. I'm defiitely still trying to find my way.

But what made our holiday absolutely the best, was all the time we got to spend with our cousins.

Gone.

Spring is gone and hot summer days are here. We are also going away for a week. Mum has also gone home. She had taken pictures of the flowers that were blooming around our garden. Spring time. I wish it was still spring time.

Book lover's bag

I feel like we live in a world where everything needs to be new and fancy. I often clash with this type of world as I have been raised to reuse and recycle, to save and to share. Because of that disagreement, I find myself making things that are recycled to the max.

This project is rycycling at it's best, a bag made out of an old book. I saw this on Pinterest and decided to try it. I think they are pretty funky.

All together there were three different ones (one of them is already sold), and I think I'll be making more of these.

Melbourne cup // with kids

Last year when someone told me Melbourne cup was on, I thought they were speaking a different language as none of that made any sense to me. This year I'm smarter, I know it's got something to do with horses and fancy dressing. FANCY DRESSING! Yes, I'm all over that. Any reason to have a party is a good reason for me.

My awesome friend organized a lunch (and why did I not take a photo of the amazing cake she made, it had horses on it, dang it.). She invited bunch of us stay-at-home mums over and had a great idea that the kids could do some crafting. Melbourne cup is all about fancy hats and hair pieces, though yes mainly it's about the horses. But I'm more into the hair things. So kids did their own hair accessories. This one is Emma's creation.

And check out the mess they were able to make:

Thanks again Linda for having us over! It was so worth vacuuming the night before, wasn't it. :)

Old McDonald had a farm

Grandmas are the the best. They seem to have endless amount of energy to play (and to clean and to cook). I am so greatful for having my mum around. Emma absolutely adores her and it is going to be so hard to let her fly back to Finland. I will actually have to start wasing the dishes again and doing laundry and mopping the floors and still play with this one cheaky monkey. She's set the bar a bit too high for me to reach, I know I will fall short.

But I know I can continue this game of Old McDonald's farm with her. It's an absolute must and I think I need to make a few more of these animal masks as she also likes to be a trukey and a donkey and a goose. It seems to me that all the not so usual animals intrest her.

Thanks mummi for playing with us, you have been such a great help!

Oh and because people have been so interested in these since the spring festival, I thought I'd keep selling them. Prices are on my facebook page. And thank you all for all the lovely comments that you've left on my blog, they brighten up my day so much!

If you like it rich

Chocolate is what I'm all about today. If you like it rich, this one is for you. It is truly and well the most loaded chocolate cake I've ever had, super wealthy, millionare of all the chocolate cakes.

It was our 3rd anniversary the other day and the tradition goes that we have a piece of chocolate cake and a piece of cheese cake on that day. Cheese cake for this year was turkish delight cheese cake and the chocolate cake this one.

Ingredients:

500g good-quality dark chocolate
125g unsalted butter

1/4 cup caster sugar
4 eggs
1 tbs plain flour

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C. Grease and line the base of a 20cm springform cake pan.

  2. Melt the chocolate, butter and 1 tablespoon sugar in a bowl set over a saucepan of gently simmering water Stir until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is well combined, then remove the bowl from the pan and set side to cool slightly.

  3. Beat the eggs and the sugar in an electric mixer for 10 minutes on medium-high until very thick and pale. Using a metal spoon, gently fold in the flour, then the chocolate mixture, trying to retain as much air as possible.

  4. Pour into the prepared pan and bake in the oven for 12 minutes (the cake will look raw at this stage).

  5. Remove the cake from the oven and run a knife around the edge of the pan. Set aside to cool in the pan, then place in the freezer for few hours.

  6. Remove the cake from the freezer 1 hour before serving and leave at room temperature to soften.

I will admit that it was a bit too rich for me, a small amout was more than enough, but then again I'm not used to that wealthy things anyway. The rest of the cake was cut in pieces and will now be delivered to the local police station for them to enjoy. Yes I like to sweeten their day.

Oh and as an anniversary present my very own awesome police officer got me a new flash camera. Yay! Thanks hubs, you're the best!
